Wilderness First Aid Course
Letter from a student ...

Hi Steve,
It was really great spending the weekend in the WFAC.

I'm a motorcycle rider. A few years ago, I came across an accident, the guy didn't have a full face helmet and his jaw was crushed. There was a lot of superficial blood and I realized there was nothing I could do for the guy. It was frustrating realizing there was nothing I could do. Fortunately, the paramedics showed up a few minutes later.

As I was driving home from the WFAC, this experience came into my head. I realize that with the training I received at the course, I could actually have been of help. I could have checked for serious bleeding and at minimum, held c-spine until they got there. Following this thought process further, I also realize that while I may not have a legal obligation to help, there is a moral obligation. I remember many accidents I've passed by because I couldn't help and this just isn't the case anymore.

It's funny because I was just thinking I wanted to learn WFA in case a friend got hurt in the mountains but there really is a lot more to it than this. If it's safe to stop, I just don't see myself passing by an accident anymore.

With this in mind, I really want to make sure I'm equipped...just in case Karma passes along an opportunity to make up for the Motorcycle accident I couldn't help at.

Again, I'd really like to thank you and everyone for the training, for me this is a big deal and a significant milestone in my life.

Take Care,
Chuck
